September 2026 Recap on Pathpoint: What's Binding by Region and How Renewals Are Pricing
By Pathpoint
—What's binding by region
The regions fall into three groups. In the Northeast, New York/New Jersey, and California, apartments and lessor's-risk-only (LRO) buildings lead binds, while contractor classes lead in North Texas, the Southeast, and Pacific Mountain. The Midwest and Mid Atlantic are mixed, with property classes leading Midwest submissions and contractor classes leading its binds. In the Mid Atlantic, contractor classes lead submissions and LRO buildings lead binds.
A few standouts:
- Apartments 2 stories and under make up 30% of Northern California binds, the most concentrated class in any region.
- Residential roofing makes up 21% of Midwest binds, more than double its 8% share of submissions.
- North Texas is the most contractor-heavy region, with subcontracted residential work at 18% of submissions.

One account can list more than one class code, so a region's shares add up to more than 100%. “Fastest growing” only ranks codes with at least 10 accounts in August.
Seasonal outdoor trades are picking up. Landscape gardening is a top-three grower in the Northeast and Southern California, and pressure washing and tree trimming are climbing too. Most fast growers are smaller classes, so large percentage gains reflect modest volume.
Renewal pricing for apartments and LRO buildings, among September's top-renewing classes
More of September’s apartment and LRO renewals came back lower than higher. Apartments greater than 2 stories had a median change of -2.7%, with 54% coming in below expiring premium. LRO buildings maintained by the insured had a median change of -4.5%, and 65% came back lower. Apartments 2 stories and under are closer to even.

For habitational and LRO accounts, a renewal near or below last year's premium is common right now. If one comes back well above expiring, check what changed on the account, then send it to us so we can compare it across markets. E&S policies don't auto-renew, and the earlier we see a renewal, the more markets we can put in front of it.
